What’s ABA, Anyway?

When you hear “ABA,” you might immediately picture intense, all-day therapy for kids with Autism. And yes, that’s a huge part of it—a really important one! But trust us, Applied Behavior Analysis is way bigger than just one type of therapy. It’s a science!

At All-Behavior Consulting, we want to clear things up and show you what the science of ABA can really do, and why we use its awesome principles in a unique way to put you, the caregiver, in charge.

ABA: It’s the Science of How We Learn

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is simply the study of understanding human behaviors and modifying the environment to achieve socially significant outcomes.

When we talk about ABA, we mean using a scientific, data-driven approach to:

  1. Figure out the “why” behind a behavior (what’s the relationship between the behavior and what happens around it?).
  2. Teach useful, positive skills to replace the challenging ones.
  3. Use data (facts!) to make sure our strategies are actually working for your family.

Because it works so well, ABA isn’t just for kids with autism! People use these same principles for things like managing businesses, getting over bad habits, and even improving safety at work. It works for almost everyone, everywhere!

Why Traditional ABA is Still a Big Deal

It’s super important to remember that traditional, high-hour ABA therapy is absolutely life-changing for many individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

For some kids, especially those dealing with big skill gaps or behaviors that are aggressive or even dangerous, the intensive structure is vital. That commitment (20-40 hours a week) gives them the repetition and immediate help they need to stay safe and learn those critical, foundational life skills. It works, and we totally respect that model.

All-Behavior Consulting: Your Personal, Parent-Led Model

We designed this model to support families who need help managing behavioral challenges. The child does not have to be diagnosed with ASD or ADHD. We focus more on the behaviors and parents willingness to implement ABA strategies. Our model focuses on Natural Environment Teaching and meeting the families where they are. We fill the gap for families who need results without the huge time commitment. We want you to feel confident managing your child’s behavior, right in your own environment.

We make this happen by having a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) work directly with you—we’re talking 1:1 consultation where your BCBA is teaching you specific ABA strategies and relating them back to your current situation.

The Best Part: Long-Term Results!

The biggest problem with any therapy is making sure those new skills stick and generalize (work everywhere). If a behavior only improves when the therapist is around, the job isn’t done!

Our non-traditional model fixes this by focusing on:

  1. Generalization: Since we train you to use the strategies in your daily life (at the park, at Grandma’s house, at the dinner table), the skills automatically apply to every setting and person. That’s real change!
  2. Maintenance: When we’re done, you won’t just “fade out.” You’ll have a complete toolbox of skills and the confidence to handle whatever new challenges pop up next. You become the long-term expert!
  3. Efficiency: We zero in on the most impactful strategies. Your plan is truly individualized to meet the need of your family. This means, with consistency, you get big results with less time.

We’re not trying to replace high-intensity ABA therapy. We’re here to support the families that aren’t a fit for that model- the ones who want to take an active role in their loved one’s treatment, those who can commit time and energy to consistently learn and implement strategies.
