What comes to mind when you hear “ABA”? Maybe you know someone who had ABA services and you view it in a positive light, maybe you landed on the wrong corner of the internet with people saying how bad they think it is. Perhaps, you simply have no idea what it is. We are here to help. Simply put, ABA- Applied Behavior Analysis is the science of human behaviors based on environmental settings and responses.
ABA therapy is the only evidenced-based therapy to help support Autistic individuals navigate the world around them. Through ABA therapy Autistic individuals learn functional communication skills, develop appropriate social skills, build and maintain friendships, learn appropriate replacement behaviors to decrease maladaptive behaviors, and ultimately participate in the world around them.
How does ABA therapy work?
A qualified professional, usually a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) will conduct an assessment and develop a unique plan based on the individual’s current skill level and behavioral needs. Here are a few key components of ABA:
- Function: Figure out the “why” behind a behavior (what’s the relationship between the behavior and what happens around it?).
- Individualized plan: Develop a unique plan to support the individual based on their needs.
- Implement: Teach useful, positive skills to replace the challenging ones.
- Analyze: Use data (facts!) to make sure strategies are actually working for your family.
Because it works so well, ABA isn’t just for kids with autism! People use these same principles for things like managing businesses, getting over bad habits, and even improving safety at work. It works for almost everyone, everywhere!
All-Behavior Consulting: Your Personal, Parent-Led Model
At All Behavior Consulting, parents are integral part of the success. We heavily focus on the behaviors and parents willingness to implement ABA strategies. We designed this model to support families who need help managing behavioral challenges. Our model focuses on Natural Environment Teaching and meeting the families where they are. We fill the gap for families who need results without the huge time commitment. We want you to feel confident managing your child’s behavior, right in your own environment.
We make this happen by having a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) work directly with you—we’re talking 1:1 consultation where your BCBA is teaching you specific ABA strategies and relating them back to your current situation.
The Best Part: Long-Term Results!
The biggest problem with any therapy is making sure those new skills stick and generalize (work everywhere). If a behavior only improves when the therapist is around, the job isn’t done!
Our parent-led model focuses on:
- Generalization: Since we train you to use the strategies in your daily life (at the park, at Grandma’s house, at the dinner table), the skills automatically apply to every setting and person. That’s real change!
- Maintenance: When we’re done, you won’t just “fade out.” You’ll have a complete toolbox of skills and the confidence to handle whatever new challenges pop up next. You become the long-term expert!
- Efficiency: We zero in on the most impactful strategies. Your plan is truly individualized to meet the need of your family. This means, with consistency, you get big results with less time.
Like any science, misuse of the scientific principles can cause harm. It’s important to work with a provider who can recognize the historical harm and is educated on the latest studies and concepts to provide your family with the best care.
